Mum Aimee Willett to spend last Christmas with sons Charlie and Kaleb in Sittingbourne after being diagnosed with cancer

Aimee Willett is ensuring she makes lasting memories with her family after being told this could be her last Christmas with them.

The mum-of-two has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy since she was diagnosed with cancer last December.

It was discovered following her first smear test at the age of 25, which is when screening starts.

But in June another tumour was found – and this time it was inoperable.

While she has been told she will be here to enjoy this year’s festivities, the longer-term prognosis is less clear.

Despite the heartbreak of leaving sons Charlie, eight, and Kaleb, three, without their mother, the 26-year-old has decided to speak out in the hope it will encourage other women to attend their cervical screenings.

Miss Willett, of Charlotte Street, Sittingbourne, said: “The best they can do is give me some time.

“I am bitter about it. I would like to see the age lowered. I think 25 is too old – especially if a girl has had a child at a young age.

“The biggest thing for me now is for people to be more aware.

“If you experience anything that’s not normal, go to your doctor and get it checked out and when you get a letter asking you to go for a smear test make an appointment straight away and keep it.

“I always thought it would never happen to me because I was young, but cancer doesn’t pick an age group.”

The former Sittingbourne Community College pupil says she is determined to make this Christmas the best one ever and has even drawn up a bucket list, which includes marrying partner Michael Bond, 26.

She said: “We’re taking the kids to Lapland UK as a surprise and we plan to spend Christmas Day at home, just the four of us, with the kids playing with their toys.

“Getting married might be a bit difficult due to money. Other things on my list include seeing the Eiffel Tower light show and Disneyland Paris with the boys.

“I’d also like to take part in Race for Life so they can see me do it whether it’s walking, crawling or being carried across the line.”
