Today's tribute to singer Peggy Lee has been cancelled

The heat is off at Sittingbourne’s Avenue Theatre today (Sunday).

Aussie cabaret star Brigitte Baden-Rennie has cancelled her homage to the late sultry American singer Peggy Lee which had a 2.30pm matinee this afternoon.

Miss Lee, who was born Norma Deloris Egstrom on May 26, 1920, and would have been 98 this month, is probably most famous for her cover of Fever.

She also recorded and wrote the words to He’s A Tramp in Disney’s cartoon Lady And The Tramp in 1956 and provided the voices for four of the characters in the film.

Brigitte from Broadstairs was to have been joined by award-winning swing singer Jason Allen along with Roger Allen on keyboards, Phil Smith on sax, Cyril Manuel on double bass and Jimmy Tagford on drums.

She said: "I’m afraid we’ve had to cancel as the ticket sales were too low. Hate doing it but that’s the business I’m afraid.

"Hope to book in again but with perhaps just a pianist."
