M2 junction 5 slip reopens after emergency repairs

Additional reporting by Ellis Stephenson

Highways bosses have announced the M2 junction five slip road has reopened.

Emergency resurfacing work was ordered on the hard shoulder of the London-bound carriageway after drivers have been using it for nearly two weeks in a contraflow system.

A spokesman for the authority said: "The road reopened at 5.15pm. We're sorry it was later than planned.

"These were essential works which needed to be carried out as drivers are relying on the hard shoulder due to a contraflow system that's allowing us to complete work on the main carriageway."
