Ten suspected illegal immigrants found in lorry in Teynham

Emergency crews rushed to the depot of a fruit importer following the discovery of 10 suspected illegal immigrants in the back of a lorry.

At least three patrol cars and a police van descended on the Fowler Welch site, off London Road, Teynham, at around midday today.

The group has since been handed over to the UK Border Agency.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a report that people were believed to be in a lorry in London Road, Teynham, at 11.58am.

"Officers attended the scene and located 10 people. The matter will be dealt with by the Home Office.

"The South East Coast Ambulance Service was also called to assess for any injuries."
