Southeastern train driver shaken after series of air rifle pellets fired at carriage of Sittingbourne to Sheerness service

A train driver was left badly shaken after his carriage came under fire.

The door to the section where he was sitting was hit by a series of air rifle pellets as the 8.32pm Sittingbourne to Sheerness service travelled through the Sheerness.

A spokesman for Southeastern said: “The train was taken out of service so the shattered window could be repaired and the British Transport Police are now investigating the matter.

“We take such incidents very seriously, given the risk of serious injury to passengers and staff.

“Our thanks go to our train crew involved in the incident, who acted quickly to reassure passengers.”

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed it was investigating the attack which happened on November 21 between 8.44pm and 8.48pm.

A spokesman said: “Our officers were called to Sittingbourne railway station on Friday, November 21, shortly after 9pm to reports of a train struck by pellets.

“The 8.32pm service is thought to have been struck by a pellet, possibly fired from an air gun, which hit the driver’s window and then struck a coach by the doors.

“The second pellet hit another coach.”
