Motorists suffered delays on the A249 after a van ended up impaled on the central reservation crash barrier.
The accident happened near the Bobbing Apple restaurant, close to the junction with the B2006 at Bobbing, Sittingbourne.
The white van and a car collided on the Maidstone-bound carriageway.
Police, fire engines and ambulances were at the scene.
South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed one person was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham for checks.
The crash happened just after 1pm. Sheppey-bound traffic was also said to be delayed because of onlookers.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two fire engines were dispatched. A spokeswoman said: "Two fire engines attended and crews helped make the scene safe. Two people were passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service. The scene was left in the care of Kent Police."
A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 1.15pm on Thursday to a collision involving a car and a van on the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249 near Bobbing. Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and two people were treated for injuries."
He added: "Patrols remained at the scene where one lane was closed while arrangements were made to recover one of the vehicles."
Police later tweeted a photograph of the van and said: "This caused disruption to both carriageways. Thankfully no one was seriously injured! Apologies for the delays."
