Two people and a dog rescued after a van became stuck in flood water in Raspberry Hill Lane near Sittingbourne

Two people and a dog had to be rescued from a van by police and fire crews after it became stranded in flood water in Sittingbourne.

It happened shortly before 9.15am in Raspberry Hill Lane and now fire crews are reminding motorists to never drive through flood water as it is often deeper than it looks.

A spokesman at Kent Fire and Rescue Service added: "Crews were called to reports of a van stuck in flood water in Raspberry Hill Lane.

"One fire engine attended and crews wearing dry suits worked with officers from Kent Police to push the vehicle and its occupants to safety.

"No casualties were reported."

Firefighters returned to the station at about 9.50am.

A road closure has been put in place in Sheerness Road between Raspberry Hill Lane and Lower Halstow, near Sittingbourne.

Kent Police Swale has tweeted to say Kent County Council's (KCC) highways team is dealing with the flooding but the road is due to be closed for "some time".

A spokesperson for the force added: "The local highways authority is also enforcing a road closure due to the levels of surface water on the road."
