A garden designed for a local hospice won a top medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Demelza, a garden designed for the Bobbing-based hospice, and the show’s sponsors Marshalls, which has its main manufacturing and distribution site for the company in Sittingbourne, has been awarded a silver medal.
The Demelza garden was designed by Jo Thompson from gardening firm English Garden Design.
Gentle musical sounds are used in the garden.
A water harp plays in one corner and a Japanese sui-kin-kutsu (underground water chamber), makes echoing sounds.
Aluminium chimes in the flower beds give children the chance to make their own music.
Ms Thompson said: “The Chelsea Flower Show is the pinnacle of any garden designer’s career. Designing this garden has given me a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of the charity dear to my heart,’
Inspiration
Ted Gladdish, chief executive of Demelza said: “We are so very grateful to Jo Thompson for designing this wonderful tribute to our charity.
“It is not only an inspiration to the children that we look after but a heart-warming way to
celebrate the opening of our latest South East London hospice.”
The entire garden will be relocated to the hospice after the show. Designer Ian Dexter said: “I am absolutely thrilled to receive the medal.
“The whole Marshalls team has worked seamlessly and this is a magnificent commendation to each and everyone involved in the project.
