A man has been flown to a London hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Kemsley.
Police confirmed they were called to Putney Drive, at 5.30pm to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
It was initially thought a young boy had been hit, but an eye witness said the victim was a man in his mid 20s and the child was simply playing nearby.
A police spokesman said: "Officers are at the scene and the pedestrian has been taken to a London hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries."
She added: "Traffic is heavier due to the incident so motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible."
It is understood the incident happened near the junction with Newman Drive.
One witness reported seeing two Kent Air Ambulance helicopters at the scene.
