Kent Kings claimed their first win of the season after an action-packed meeting at Central Park.

They survived a Mildenhall Fen Tigers fightback to squeeze home 47-46 in front of a large Bank Holiday Monday crowd in the National Trophy.

Kings' top three of Ben Morley (14), James Shanes (9) and Danny Ayres (9) opened up a commanding 10-point advantage after eight heats.

But when Ayres forgot to turn his fuel tap on, retiring from heat nine, it triggered a Mildenhall revival that saw them close the gap to a point with three rides left.

Kings maintained their slender advantage courtesy of two more wins for Morley, either side of Ayres' success in heat 14.

Former Kent rider Connor Coles (10+2) impressed for Mildenhall.

Kent are in National League action at Buxton Hitmen on Sunday before hosting Coventry Storm in the Knockout Cup on Monday (6.30pm).
