Aslan Odev believes Sittingbourne board would like to keep him as manager next season

Aslan Odev is staying positive about his chances of keeping the Sittingbourne manager's job.

Odev is in caretaker control until the end of the season but has lost all five Bostik South games since Nick Davis' resignation.

He still wants the job and believes the board would like him to have it - but he has to get some wins on the board.

Odev said: "The board are positive and saying the right things and I'm saying the right things to the players.

"I've no idea if I'll keep the job but there's been murmurs about a positive outlook.

"In my head I know the board would like me to have it - I think so anyway - but if they don't see an improvement in results then they've got to look at their options.

"I want to try and keep it, my mentality is to work hard and keep working harder until we get results.

"The results aren't going our way, that's the bottom line.

"It's a results business so we've got to try and start getting results, I suppose, but we'll see at the end of the season."

Odev goes for his first win in a rearranged match at South Park tomorrow (Thursday).

If it doesn't come there, Sittingbourne have a big chance to get three points at home to bottom side Shoreham on Saturday.

The visitors are well adrift, with only eight points on the board.

Odev knows it's a game Sittingbourne should win but is taking nothing for granted.

He said: "We've got some fixtures left against sides going for promotion and when we're playing those sides I say to the players what an opportunity it is to go out and make a statement.

"With Shoreham being down the bottom I'm sure it's one the players have looked at as one they can potentially win but it's important we prepare properly and treat it the same as any other game.

"I'm confident in the squad we have and I know we can start to lay some foundations and put in a performance that's good enough to win the game."

Sittingbourne were frustrated by a late postponement at Hythe on Saturday.

It was gone 2pm when the referee decided the pitch was unplayable after snow. Odev said: "I thought it could have been played but the referee was concerned about player safety and you can't argue with that."

Sittingbourne host promotion-chasing Greenwich Borough on Tuesday night.
