A new dad, who left his newborn child to answer a charge of handling stolen goods, has been given a warning to stop being a “cry baby”!

Zac Chambers, 22, told a judge last November that he was anxious to return to the child - after sentence for his crimes was adjourned for reports.

Chambers, of Celilia Road, Ramsgate was later given a community order requiring him to carry out unpaid work for the community.

But the same judge, Adele Williams, has now been told he failed to turn up for some of his appointments- and was in breach of the order.

John Fitzgerald, prosecuting, told Canterbury Crown Court Chambers had turned up six times and completed 40 of the allotted 150 hours.

His barrister Ed Burge said Chambers had a valid reason for not turning up for litter-collecting work on one of the days..a bad back!

He admitted not arriving on another occasion, claiming his partner had given birth and he needed to help her.

But the judge retorted: “No, no, no...he has used this baby as an excuse before! Ok, he can use the baby as an excuse on one occasion but absolutely not any more!!”

She said doing community service wasn’t “ an optional activity” - and decided to give him a three month jail sentence suspended for two years instead.

Judge Williams added: “You have shown very little motivation to do the unpaid work. You breach this order and you will lose your liberty.

Chambers, who had admitted handling receiving rings stolen in a burglary in Broadstairs, was also put under partial house arrest for the next three months and ordered to remain at his home over night - but wanted permission to go on holiday to the North this week with his partner’s family.

The judge retorted: “Go on holiday? He should have completed the unpaid work!”

She refused to suspend the curfew order and Chambers stomped out of court.
