E scooter rider knocked off by car in Northdown Park Road, Margate

A woman was knocked off her e scooter by a car this morning as she travelled over a zebra crossing.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident in Northdown Park Road, Margate.

Passers-by could be seen trying to help the woman and sheltering her from the rain with umbrellas as she lay in the road.

It is understood she was riding her electric scooter across the zebra crossing near Northdown Surgery when she was struck by the black BMW shortly before 9am.

A video of the aftermath of the incident was shared on social media, showing people shielding the woman from the elements.

Police confirmed they were called to a report of a collision.

A spokesman said: "Officers and paramedics attended the scene in Northdown Park Road, Margate.

"A woman reported injuries and was taken to hospital."

It is illegal to ride e scooters on the road or in public spaces because adequate insurance cannot be secured for them.

However, they can be used in areas where trial rental schemes are taking place, such as in Canterbury.
