Family pays tribute to Ramsgate girl Georgina Waterman after fatal epileptic fit in Australia

A grieving family has paid tribute to a Kent woman who died suddenly aged just 23 after moving to Australia.

Georgina Waterman, from Ramsgate, suffered with epilepsy and had a fatal fit during the night of March 31.

Her sister Danielle Waterman, 21, from Westgate, said: "She was beautiful.

"Everything you'd ever expect a big sister to be.

"We had our disagreements like all siblings but she was always there whenever you needed her.

"She listened to you and didn’t even need to speak you just knew she was there."

The former King Ethelbert School pupil had recently moved to live with her aunt and uncle in Perth.

She had also met boyfriend Dan Pyne while living in Australia, who her sister called the love of Georgina's life.

Miss Waterman added: "It came completely out of the blue.

"The night before we had a chat with her on Skype before we went to bed.

"At 7.30am we got a call to say she was dead and had had a fatal epileptic fit.

"We were in complete disbelief.

"Because the call came on April 1, I hoped it was just a sick April Fools joke.

"It didn’t feel real and it still doesn’t."

Georgina’s travel insurance didn’t cover any costs after death, meaning that the family have had to pay for an Australian autopsy, funeral and repatriation.

Danielle has set up a fundraising page to try and help cover some of the costs they are facing, which can be found here.

They will also be holding a second funeral service for Georgina when they return.

Miss Waterman said: "My mum, dad and two little sisters had the main funeral service in Australia, where Georgina was cremated.

"It cost too much to bring the body back and have the service over here.

"Every bit of money we had has paid for the flights and cost of the Australian funeral.

"We want to give her the send off she deserves at home."

Friends of the family are also collecting money in buckets at two shops on Northdown Road, Animal Magic and Bargain Busters.

The shop's owner, Chris Parker, said: "I thought we should do something to help out.

"I have known the family for nearly 15 years and my children have grown up with theirs.

"I stood in Canterbury in fancy dress last Sunday with a bucket and managed to raise £200."
