Man dies in crash at St Peter's Road, Broadstairs

A 65-year-old man has been killed after his car ploughed into a wall.

He was behind the wheel of a a grey Volvo XC60 which left the road at the junction of St Peter's Road and Gladstone Road, Broadstairs, in the early hours of this morning.

It mounted the pavement shortly after midnight, smashing into two telecom boxes and ending up in the wall.

Police were called at 12.30am by paramedics who had gone to the scene.

Det Sgt Scott Lynch said: "The driver, a 65-year-old old local man, was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital in Margate where he was later confirmed dead.

"His next of kin has been informed.

"One passenger in the Volvo was treated for minor injuries and been discharged from hospital. there were no other vehicles involved but I would like any witnesses who saw the Volvo prior to or at the time of the collision to come forward."
