Ford Galaxy completely destroyed in fire at Wantsum Way, St Nicholas at Wade

A car was completely destroyed after a fire broke out "within seconds".

One fire engine went to Wantsum Way, St Nicholas at Wade, after being called yesterday at 10.25am.

The crew wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel to extinguish the flames by 10.55am.

It is believed the driver saw smoke coming from the vehicle, pulled over and got out before flames, thought to have been caused by an electrical fault, spread to the rest of the Ford Galaxy.

A witness, Chris Perkins, said the car was smouldering from the boot and was ablaze "within seconds" of the occupants stopping.

The driver arranged for the vehicle's recovery and Kent Highways was informed as there was some damage to the road and spilled diesel.

No injuries were reported.
