There were major delays after a car smashed into a telegraph pole in a busy road this afternoon.

Two cars are thought to have collided in Haine Road, Broadstairs, before one of them then crashed into the wooden post.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at 1.40pm, and closed the road in both directions due to cables in the road.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 1.41 pm to a collision between two vehicles.

"One of the vehicles hit a BT pole. A driver received some minor injuries when his air bag deployed."

The road re-opened at about 3pm, but traffic took another hour to clear.
