Margate: Police recover 200 stolen items after raid in Northdown Road

Unique jewellery, custom made cushions and curtains, furniture and lamps were among stolen items recovered by police.

Officers searched a property in Northdown Road, Margate, on Tuesday, January 8, and recovered some 200 items - about half thought to be from a burglary of a storage unit in St Nicholas at Wade between September 23 and September 24.

Two people, both from Margate, were arrested on the same day of the search in connection with the burglary.

A 49-year-old woman was held on suspicion of handling stolen goods and a 13-year-old boy on suspicion of burglary. They were released pending further investigation.

Work is underway to find the owners of the remaining seized items.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Liam Johnson, said: "Fortunately a victim of a burglary reported last year has been able to prove ownership of some of the seized items through having photographs so has been reunited with them.

"We would always encourage people to document their belongings, take photographs of them, and keep receipts and details of serials numbers separate and safe.

"So if you do ever find your home or property targeted by burglars, it will increase your chances of having the stolen goods returned to you, and also make it harder for any thieves to sell anything on."
