A Thanet toy store has taken a leaf out of the car industry's book by launching a two-week 'Toy Scrappage Scheme' to help cash-strapped parents this Christmas.

Smyths, based at newly-named shopping area The Link, Westwood, is launching a toy swap next Tuesday (October 20), where parents can exchange unwanted playthings for vouchers.

Money-off coupons worth more than £700 include £20 off the best-selling Wii Fit computer game, £15 off a Nintendo DSi Console and £15 off a girls' Hello Kitty bike.

Jamie Darby from Smyths said: "We think our Toy Scrappage Scheme will be a real help to parents this year as the voucher booklet is filled with more than 100 top offers, with something to suit everyone. This is bound to be a very popular scheme as customers will be rewarded for discarding old and unwanted toys."
