Pilgrims Hospices new fundraising event Paws 4 Pilgrims

A brand-new Pilgrims Hospices fundraising event is set to take place this March - with Westgate pooch Mia as its poster dog.

Paws 4 Pilgrims, a 5k sponsored dog walk in Deal, will be followed by a fun dog show on Sunday, March 25.

Dogs and owners are invited to join the fun and enter their furry friends into categories which include fasted sausage catcher and dog most like its owner.

The money raised will help provide end of life care for local people who need help the most.

Pilgrims held a poster competition last year to fund the perfect pooch to be the poster dog for the event.

The winner was Mia, a German shorthair pointer. She will be taking part on the day along with Bella and Minnie, who were runners up in the competition.

Mia’s owner, Sally Martin from Westgate, said: “I’m over the moon that Mia won the poster competition.

“People have already commented on seeing her on the posters and she even has Facebook page for comments too.

“It really brings a smile to me face.

“I have helped at Pilgrims events in the past, I’m so glad to be part of Paws 4 Pilgrims and I’m looking forward to seeing many breeds of dogs on the day.

“Mia is very keen to enter the fasted sausage catcher in the fun dog show too.”

The event will start at the bandstand in Deal at 10.30am on Sunday, March 25.

All dogs taking part will receive a Pilgrims dog disc, as a thank you for taking part.

The fun dog show is being run by Jenkins Canine Services, and there will also be stall with canine treats.

Karen Kenwood, community fundraiser and organiser of the event, said: “Pilgrims are really looking forward to holding this new event, many dogs have already entered including Ozzie, Pilgrims very own (PAT) pets are therapy dog.

“It’s great to see the local community supporting something new to our events listing this year.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day and aim to raise much needed funds to help continue to support palliative care. Thank you.”
