Margate residents restrain man after College Road jewellery raid

Quick-thinking neighbours restrained a suspected burglar shortly after jewellery and watches had been pilfered from a house.

Police arrested the man shortly after arriving at the scene of the break-in in College Road, Margate, at about 5.15pm on Saturday.

Officers had been called to the area after residents reported returning home to find their valuables missing.

A police spokesman said: "We quickly attended the address and arrested a man nearby with the assistance of members of the public.

"A pillowcase containing jewellery was recovered as part of the investigation."

David Manning, of Clements Road in Ramsgate, has since been charged with burglary.

The 57-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear before magistrates in Folkestone on Thursday.
