Ramsgate: Travellers pitch up on Jackey Bakers for fifth time this year

Travellers have pitched up on a public park just days before security measures were set to be implemented.

Fed-up council bosses were planning to install bollards, fencing and CCTV at Ramsgate's Jackey Bakers fields early this month in a bid to prevent illegal encampments.

But a group of travellers have yet again made their way onto the playing fields near Sainsbury's and have set up camp.

Police arrived at the scene yesterday afternoon after being made aware of the site's fifth incursion this year.

Officers are carrying out inquiries and will now liaise with the landowner.

Backlash from enraged residents led to Thanet District Council announcing it was going to beef up security at Jackey Bakers - but travellers have so far continued to ignore calls for them not to return.
