Margate woman fined £1k after 'extreme' fly-tipping in Victoria Road

A fly-tipper has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 in damages after her littering antics caught up with her.

Kerry Foley persistently dumped rubbish in Victoria Road, Margate.

The 40-year-old received repeated warnings from Thanet District Council but the council say after an "extreme flytip" was found in the alleyway at the back of her rented property, she was taken to court.

Director of operational services at the council Gavin Waite said: “We can only expect to reap the benefits of an improving Thanet if we work together to keep it a clean and attractive place.

“Not only do fly-tippers discourage visitors; they cause misery, and at times pose hazards, to our local residents who must witness such scenes every day.

“Fly-tipping is not a matter to be taken lightly and this case shows the extent we will go to stop it.”

Miss Foley will have to pay a total of £1,008.54 on Wednesday, April 6.

She was fined £440 and ordered to pay a £44 victim surcharge, £404.54 in cleaning and enforcement costs and £120 in legal expenses at Medway Magistrates Court.

The council say if you witness anyone fly-tipping to contact 01843 577000.
