Former Spurs youngster Daniel Akindayini looking forward to making his mark at Margate after moving on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion

Margate new boy Daniel Akindayini admitted he did not know too much about the club before making his loan switch from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 20-year-old Londoner has moved from the Amex Stadium to Hartsdown Park on a 28-day loan, and immediately endeared himself to Gate fans with both goals in Saturday's 2-1 home Vanarama National League South win over Basingstoke.

His opener, was a tap-in, set up by strike partner Freddie Ladapo, and his second, a header after David Hunt's long throw had been flicked on.

A slight knee injury cut short his debut in the 63rd minute, but Akindayini says he is looking forward to getting to know his new team-mates better.

The Brighton Under-21 forward, who began his career as a youngster at Spurs, explained: "I can't lie. I didn't know much (about Margate FC). I did know the town, that it was near the sea but I didn't know much about the football.

"Once I was told they were interested I did a bit of research, to find out a bit more about the club and some of the players."

Akindayini trained just once with the Gate squad at Kidbrooke before making his debut, but he said manager Nikki Bull encouraging him to play his natural game helped him relax.

He added: "I trained on Thursday and they (the players) made me feel welcome. The gaffer spoke to me and told me 'There's no pressure, just play your game,' which I did, and that helped me a lot. I'm glad I got the two goals and hopefully they'll be more more to come - that's the aim."

Akindayini said he enjoyed playing alongside 10-goal top scorer Ladapo and he is looking forward to the partnership blossoming in the coming month.

He added: "I spoke to the gaffer and he told me about Freddie so I just did a bit of research to see what he's like which I guess paid off because he got me an assist (for the opening goal).

"We knew what we wanted, the link-up play in training was good so it paid off today.

"It was a great start for me, on my debut, playing with the boys but more importantly it was about getting the three points which we did."
