National League South game between Tonbridge Angels and St Albans City abandoned following serious injury to Devante Stanley

A match involving a non-league football club in Kent has been abandoned following a serious injury.

The National League South fixture between Tonbridge Angels and St Albans City was called off at Longmead, shortly before 5.30pm due to an ankle injury sustained by St Albans defender Devante Stanley.

An ambulance was called and paramedics treated Mr Stanley at the scene before taking him to Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

St Albans manager Ian Allinson thanked Tonbridge for their support.

He said: "Everyone at SACFC would like to thank the management team, players and medical staff at Tonbridge Angels for the way they handled the difficult situation this afternoon.

"We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks' time when the game is scheduled to be replayed.

"We will have an update on Devante in the coming days."

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "I can confirm we were called at approximately 5.30pm on Monday to reports of a person having suffered an ankle injury.

"One ambulance crew attended the scene and the person was assessed and treated, before being taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital."

The Kent club said: "Everyone at Tonbridge Angels would like to wish St Albans City’s Devante Stanley well following his injury this afternoon."

Midfielder John Goddard had given the away side the lead on the hour before Mr Stanley went down towards the end of the game.
