Man dies after car hits a tree on A26 Tonbridge Road near Hadlow

A man in his 20s has died and two women have been rushed to hospital after their car hit a tree.

It happened at around 7.55pm yesterday evening when a blue Vauxhall Vectra left the road and collided with a tree on the A26 Tonbridge Road, near Hadlow.

The road was closed both ways from Blackman's Lane (Hadlow) to Cranford Road (Higham Wood) for more than six hours while emergency services carried out an investigation. It has now reopened.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Two female passengers, who were also in their 20s, sustained injuries.

One woman was taken to a local hospital for further treatment and the other was conveyed to a London hospital with more serious injuries.

Julia Nowicka, who was travelling home on a bus and witnessed the scene said: "I saw two helicopters and there were lots and lots of ambulances. We had to walk past it to get to the other side of the road."

Officers from the serious collision investigation unit would like to speak to anyone who has information, including dash cam footage or who may have seen the vehicle travelling on the A26.

They are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a dark coloured Suzuki who may have seen the vehicle just before the collision.
