School issues 'stranger danger' warning

PARENTS are being warned to remind their children of "stranger danger" after an incident at a primary school.

A group of 10-year-olds were playing cricket during a lesson on the field at Woodlands Junior School, Tonbridge, when a man appeared at a gap in the hedge and offered chocolate to them.

The teacher on duty quickly went over, took the chocolate away and disposed of it. The incident, on Wednesday last week, was reported to the police.

Ian Smith, headteacher at the school, said: "Our reading of it was that it was not a sinister incident, but we used it as a lesson to remind children about stranger danger and the importance of not accepting food from strangers."
