Workers resurfacing road in Tonbridge work around car

Passers-by were left bemused when they spotted a large patch of road the council appeared to have missed while they were resurfacing a road - around an abandoned car.

The works were taking place last week, but due to the left vehicle, a huge patch of road was left completely untouched after the workers had to go around it.

Images of the car, parked in Tonbridge, were quickly uploaded to social media where residents complained that it had been abandoned for months, despite being reported constantly to the council.

A spokesman for Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council said: "I can confirm that the abandoned vehicle was removed from Priory Road by the Borough Council at midday on Tuesday.

"We understand from Kent County Council that resurfacing works are not yet complete and will continue until all parts of the road scheduled for work are resurfaced."

Kent County Council confirmed that standard protocol for works of this type was to resurface all the areas they can get to at the time.
