Tonbridge encouraging fans to donate £1 a week as 12th Man Fund relaunches

Tonbridge are asking fans to donate £1 a week to boost boss Steve McKimm’s budget.

Angels relaunched their 12th Man Fund before Tuesday night’s 2-1 home win over Thurrock.

McKimm and his coaching team have all signed up as Angels look to raise funds to strengthen their squad.

McKimm said: “By donating £1 you don’t get in trouble with the missus when she looks through your bank account. If we’d made it a tenner and she sees £40 a month going out, she’ll be thinking that could have paid for a meal.

“All the staff have signed up and I hope our supporters follow suit.

“Some will be keen, some won’t, but if 100 of the 500 we get at home games sign up, that’s £100 a week and that can be a big help.

“It won’t be used for anything other than the playing budget. It’s not for paying bills or anything like that.

“The money hasn’t got to be used straight away. It will be handy in emergencies if we need to go out and get someone in on loan, or if we see someone we fancy it can help with wages.

“Some people might not want to get involved because they believe we have enough of a budget to achieve things. I can promise them that with the budget I’ve got I will try my hardest but it is difficult because you need a bigger squad than we’ve got.”

Tonbridge are up to ninth in Bostik South after back-to-back home wins.

Teenager Tashi-Jay Kwayie scored a last-minute winner as Angels beat Needham Market
5-4 on Saturday. Angels led 4-2 with goals from Joe Turner, Nathan Elder (2) and Alex Akrofi but were facing a draw before Kwayie’s goal.

Elder and Akrofi scored again in Tuesday's win over Thurrock.

Tonbridge don’t play this weekend.
