Man arrested after van found alight in suspected arson attack in Hastings Road, Pembury near Tunbridge Wells

An arrest has been made after a van was found alight in a suspected arson attack in the early hours.

Fire crews were called to the blaze in Hastings Road in Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells between 1.30am and 1.50am on Sunday.

The blaze, which had spread from the van to an adjacent fence, is being treated as suspicious.

Police arrested a 31-year-old local man in connection with the incident.

He has since been bailed pending further investigation.

PC Laura Craner, of the West Kent Victim Based Crime Team, said: “We have been completing inquiries into this incident and are treating the fire as suspicious.

“Officers are appealing for witnesses who saw anybody acting suspiciously in the area before 1.30am or running from the scene shortly after the fire started, to contact the appeal line.

“Motorists with dashcam and local residents with private CCTV are also asked to check for footage that may assist the investigation.”
