Tunbridge Wells: Woman detained under Mental Health Act after being struck by train at High Brooms

A woman who escaped with only minor injuries after reportedly jumping in front of a train has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A British Transport Police spokesman confirmed the 41-year-old was detained after receiving hospital treatment for minor head injuries sustained during the incident.

It is thought she landed between the rails and the train passed over her at High Brooms station in Tunbridge Wells on Monday morning.

She was hit just after 9am with all Hastings services initially cancelled.

The lines reopened by midday.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene, with a South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman confirming two ambulances, three cars and a helicopter attended.

He added: "The woman was fully conscious and was taken by road to Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury with a minor head injury."

A witness described the victim as conscious and breathing shortly before she was taken to hospital.
