Tunbridge Wells murder victim named as Giles Metcalfe

Police have confirmed the identity of a man whose body was found in a car park in Tunbridge Wells.

He has been named as Giles Metcalfe, 43, whose death is being treated as murder.

Provisional post-mortem results indicated he died as a result of the effects of a fire.

Dean Lewis, 34, of no fixed address, appeared in court charged with murder at Medway Magistrates' Court this morning.

He did not enter a plea and the father was remanded in custody and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday.

A second man was released without charge.

Mr Metcalfe was found in a stairwell of the Torrington Road site by Kent Fire and Rescue Service after they were called to a fire on Tuesday.

Police are still appealing for witnesses.
