Tunbridge Wells: David Kirby, 40 and Sam Carlton, 30 charged with armoured van robbery

Two men have been charged following an alleged robbery attempt on an armoured van in Tunbridge Wells.

Detectives from Metropolitan Police's Flying Squad alongside a police helicopter launched a dramatic sting operation after the vehicle was targeted in Fordcombe Road just after 11.30am on Friday (July 29).

A vehicle was chased from the scene and came to a stop in Manor Road, Rusthall.

One suspect was brought down with a taser in Erskinne Park Road. A second man was discovered hiding in a wheelie bin in a back garden.

David Kirby, 40 of West End, Kemsing near Sevenoaks was charged with robbery and dangerous driving.

Sam Carlton, 31 of Bridge Road in Erith was charged with robbery failing to provide a specimen for a Class A drug test.

The pair appeared before magistrates over the weekend. They were remanded in custody and will appear at Croydon Crown Court on Friday, August 26.
