More details are emerging after three raiders used a sledgehammer to smash their way into a jewellery shop.

The gang, all wearing dark clothing, broke the front window of the Walsh Bros shop in Mount Pleasant Road, Tunbridge Wells at around 4.35pm Thursday.

They made off with rings and other jewellery from the front display, although a police spokesman said it is not yet clear how much was taken.

The robbers escaped down an alleyway to a waiting black Ford Focus which is believed to be stolen.

It was later discovered abandoned in Kingswood Close in the town.

Police also found the sledgehammer used to smash the window.
