Paddock Wood: Chilled in a Field festival relocates to Hop Farm

An event voted one of the UK’s best small festivals has found a new home in Paddock Wood.

Grown from the 90s London party scene, Chilled in a Field is aimed at grown up ex-clubbers and their kids, mixing free children’s entertainment with dance music and DJs.

Now in its seventh year, the three-day festival has relocated to the Hop Farm from Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum in East Sussex.

Always a sell-out, it’s a not-for-profit social enterprise run completely by volunteers.

Sophie Randles-Dunkley, festival director, said: “Many families are finding that larger festivals can be stressful and expensive. Often, family friendly means no fun for adults.

“Chilled in a Field Festival is proud of our reputation for offering a safe space for whole families, and their child-free friends, to enjoy a weekend of fun together.”

The festival runs from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31, with capacity capped at 3,500 people.

Headlining will be dance act The Egg, rockers Tankus The Henge and Deal-based folk band Cocos Lovers. There will also be top DJs, a late-night silent disco woodland rave and an ale and cider festival.

For the children there will be a bouncy slide and castle, sand pit, crafts, science, DJ and dance workshops, interactive theatre, a Ceilidh dance event and glitter wrestling.

There will be dedicated camper van fields or the option to sleep in style, glamping in luxurious tents complete with beds, fairy lights and bunting.

It was voted runner-up by Festival Kidz in the best tiny festival category last year, won a gold award in the same contest in 2014 and a silver in 2013.

Tickets cost £99, £25 for children, from www.chilledinafieldfestival.co.uk
