Take That musical Greatest Days, previously The Band, will open its UK tour at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, starring Kym Marsh and her daughter Emilie Cunliffe

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is set to star in Take That musical, Greatest Days, on its new nationwide tour.

The actor and singer will be very familiar with at least one of her castmates, as she will be sharing the stage with her daughter, Emilie Cunliffe.

Kym, who began her career as a member of Hear’Say and achieved a No. 1 hit with the single Pure and Simple, was already a mother to then four-year-old Emilie when she appeared on ITV reality show Popstars in 2001.

Since leaving the pop group in 2002, Kym has become better known for her acting work, most notably as Corrie’s Michelle Connor from 2006 to 2019.

Most recently, she stepped onto the dance floor with Graziano Di Prima for a stint on Strictly Come Dancing at the end of last year. The pair finished in sixth place.

Her new role sees her take to the stage as Rachel, one of five school friends who bond over their love of a boyband and reunite 20 years later to see their favourite heartthrobs one last time.

“I’m delighted to be returning to theatre and joining the cast of Greatest Days,” says the 46-year-old. “I was in my early twenties when Take That were at the height of their fame and, of course, I was a huge Take That fan – who wasn’t? Their music takes me back to so many special times in my life as it will for so many other people.”

Playing Rachel in her boyband-obsessed teen years is Kym’s daughter Emilie Cunliffe, who has appeared as a singer on BBC One’s The Voice and ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

“I’m thrilled to be working with my daughter, Emilie, too,” adds Kym. “She’s a real talent and I can’t wait to share the stage with her.”

Emilie was the first of the actor’s children to have a baby of her own, making Kym a grandmother in 2019.

“I’m really excited to be joining the cast of Greatest Days,” says Emilie. “I grew up listening to Take That with Mum, so what an honour it is to be part of this brilliant musical celebrating their music. I’m really close to my mum and getting to work with her is a dream come true.”

The show, which features a book by award-winning playwright Tim Firth and music from the chart-topping boyband, was previously named The Band and made its stage debut in Manchester in 2017.

The musical now has a new name, but still features a selection of Take That’s biggest singles including Pray, Back for Good, Never Forget and, of course, Greatest Day.

This latest stage show will also coincide with the release of the film adaptation of the same name, starring Aisling Bea and Jayde Adams, which comes out this summer.

Greatest Days opens its nationwide tour at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley from Saturday, May 6 to Saturday, May 13. Book tickets online here.

You can also book tickets by calling 03433 100020.

The show will also be at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Monday, July 31 to Saturday, August 5.
