Stage adaptation of David Walliams’ children’s book Demon Dentist comes to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury

One of David Walliams’ best-loved creations is being brought to life on stage.

Demon Dentist, the sixth children’s novel from the former Britain’s Got Talent judge, has been turned into a family adventure that gives young audiences a chance to see illustrated characters jump off the page.

The show, which has been visiting theatres up and down the country, will stop off at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Thursday, May 4 to Sunday, May 7.

You can book tickets online here or by calling 01227 787787.

The story follows two friends, 12-year-old Alfie and 11-year-old Gabz, who realise that the new dentist, Miss Root, might not be all that she seems.

When children start waking up to strange items under their pillows from the tooth fairy and are given tooth-rotting sweets after a visit to the dentist, the pair decide to investigate.

The fun-filled production comes from Birmingham Stage Company, the same team who previously adapted two more of the comedian’s books, Gangsta Granny and Billionaire Boy, into stage shows.

Both productions were nominated for an Olivier Award.

David Walliams first shot to fame in BBC sketch show Little Britain, which he co-created and starred in with former Bake Off presenter Matt Lucas.

Since then, he has also appeared in comedies such as BBC’s Come Fly with Me and starred alongside Paul Rudd and Steve Carell in Dinner for Schmucks.

The actor became a staple of Saturday night TV as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, which he joined in 2012. The current series is the first to air since he quit the show in 2022.

Since 2008, David Walliams has released 17 books, all starting with his debut novel the Boy in the Dress, and has received numerous awards and critical acclaim for his writing.
