GREAT COMP GARDENS

Chickens take the spotlight as they make an appearance at the gardens near Borough Green for Hens and Gardens, a celebration of self-sufficiency and smallholding. There will be talks by Whitstable-based Francine Raymond from The Telegraph, who has written 15 books on keeping hens, innovative chicken houses, poultry food, hatching eggs and bird sellers, as well as the Kent Smallholders group - in their 30th year - showing specialities such as spinning, rug-making, felting and beekeeping.

The event is in its third year and has evolved with more exhibitors than ever in the seven-acre gardens. It starts at 11am on Sunday, June 18. Entry is £8 and six to 17-year-olds £3. For details go to greatcompgarden.co.uk

ONE WARWICK PARK

Looking for some finger-flicking fun for your father?

Tunbridge Wells was the spiritual home of Subbuteo, the table top sporting game. Although it was made for various sports, it is linked most closely to football.

The former site of the Subbuteo factory is now home to luxury boutique hotel, One Warwick Park. Subbuteo was invented by Tunbridge Wells resident Peter Adolph and the building has been formally recognised by English Heritage with a blue plaque.

To mark the game’s 70th anniversary this year, football-loving fathers can celebrate their Subbuteo-playing youth if they check in to a deluxe room between now and Wednesday, June 21, and can pick up a free, limited edition set. The package costs from £149, and if you add a Sunday roast on Father’s Day, it’s an extra £15.95 per person.

To book call 01892 520587 or email info@onewarwickpark.co.uk and quote: Father’s Day.

Challenge Dad to show his military headwear knowledge and pose for a Father's Day snap with an accompanying sword, followed by some marksmanship practice on the mini crossbow range. There will also be crafts from noon to 4pm on Saturday, June 17.

Activities are free and included in the standard grounds admission price. For details go to penshurstplace.com
