Kent half term holiday events from animals to circus skills, stories and trails

Make a weekend of it, with our guide to what's on offer across the county for all the family for the last half of the school half term.

BETTESHANGER COUNTRY PARK, DEAL

The circus is coming to town as the Circus Allstars bring their workshop to help you master skills such as juggling and stilt walking. The workshops run from Thursday, May 31 to Saturday, June 2, between 11am and 5pm. You can also explore the park on foot or on a bike while you're there. Details at betteshanger-park.co.uk

BLUEWATER

Venture beyond the shops to the outdoor nature trail to find Pixie Valley, where families can search for 10 tiny magical doors and windows to discover pixies Flora Honey-Blossom, Rosa Clover-Leaf, Oren Elm-Dew and friends. Little ones can pose on the fairytale thrones and make a wish at the wishing wall. Details at bluewater.co.uk

CANTERBURY TALES

Gather round a crackling campfire in the Medieval Story Garden to hear the Campfire Tales. Suitable for ages five and up, the storytelling sessions run every Thursday through to Thursday, August 30. CHARTWELL, NEAR SEVENOAKS

All the chickens have escaped from the kitchen garden at the National Trust house - follow the family trail to find them all every day until Sunday, June 3, between 10am and 4pm. The trail costs £1 plus normal entry. Details at nationaltrust.org.uk

CHATHAM HISTORIC DOCKYARD

Can you track down the unicorns and mermaids on the site? Until Sunday, June 3, follow the mythical trail on-site and there's a prize at the end. There will also be storytelling on offer. Book at thedockyard.co.uk

DREAMLAND, MARGATE

The park is open throughout half term until Sunday, June 3, with pop-up entertainment, art installations and street food. Gorilla Circus will also be performing some high-flying stunts at 1.30pm and 4.30pm daily. Details at Dreamland.co.uk

DIGGERLAND, STROOD

There's some 20 different rides and drives, and more than 100 machines to marvel at, including the Spindizzy ride, a giant JCB 806 digger or go-karts and the Skyshuttle which lifts 50ft into the air. Details at diggerland.com or call 0871 2277007.

GROOMBRIDGE PLACE, TUNBRIDGE WELLS

Fairytales and Fables is the theme for half term until Sunday, June 3, between 10am and 5pm daily. Join in with crafts, storytelling, sing-a-longs, magic shows and watch some daring fire tricks. Detalis at groombridgeplace.com

HEVER CASTLE

The castle looks back to the Edwardian era until Sunday, June 3 with the chance to see what life was like at a grand country estate just before the First World War, when the Astor family were in residence. HOP FARM, NEAR PADDOCK WOOD

There will be rides and inflatables to have fun on along with the usual attractions including animals to meet, until Sunday, June 3, plus on Thursday, May 31, Catboy and Owlette from PJ Masks will be visiting. Details at thehopfarm.co.uk

HOWLETTS, NEAR CANTERBURY

There's some mammoth days on offer at the Wild Animal Park, as you can meet the inhabitants of the Animals of the Ice Age. IGHTHAM MOTE

Follow a garden Billy Goats gruff trail to discover the story and also see the grounds of the house. While at the site head to the natural play area and enjoy a picnic. The trail runs until Sunday, June 3, between 10am and 4pm. Normal admission charges apply, £2.50 per trail. Details at nationaltrust.org.uk

KENT LIFE, MAIDSTONE

Join the Farmyard Fairy Tales themed activities until Sunday, June 3 including planting a beanstalk and helping build the three little pigs' house, plus all the usual activities and shows in the Big Top. You can also see the family of meerkats - dad Shiloh, mum Jessie and babies Fuggles and Goldie - in their new, larger enclosure which has opened for half term. LITTLE WORDS FESTIVAL, CANTERBURY

The new children's festival, courtesy of the Marlowe Theatre and Wise Words, runs until Sunday, June 3, celebrating stories and storytellers and includes shows, events and workshops at the theatre and Studio, the Marlowe Kit in Stour Street and in the streets.
