Gig For Life for Cancer Research UK at the Hop Farm Family Park, Paddock Wood, has been cancelled

A one-day charity music festival due to be held in May at the Hop Farm has been cancelled.

Gig For Life, which was organised by Amber Creative in aid of Cancer Research UK and to be headlined by 70s music legends 10cc, was due to take place at the Paddock Wood venue on Saturday, May 27.

Organisers have blamed low ticket sales with the event just weeks away - but have vowed to be back for 2018.

In a statement, Amber Creative said: "Regrettably, we have had to postpone Gig for Life until 2018 as we have taken the view, with five weeks to go, that we simply haven't sold enough tickets to make the event financially viable.

"We have all worked so hard to make this the success it should be but we must now face the reality that this year, it is not to be. We remain committed to the concept of Gig for Life and are optimistic about pushing forward with an even more stonking event in 2018."

The show's line-up included Maverick Sabre, Toploader, Los Pacaminos (featuring Paul Young), the Standard Lamps and Arcelia.

Sharon Baldwin, Cancer Research UK’s fundraising manager for Kent, said: “We’re really sorry Gig for Life has had to be postponed. It’s disappointing as such a lot of hard work and good will has gone into creating it. However, we understand the decision and hope it can happen in 2018.

“In the meantime, Cancer Research UK’s work to beat cancer sooner continues and we’d ask people to support our life-saving research by taking part in events happening in Kent, like Race for Life or Relay for Life and supporting our shops.”

It is the second year in a row a charity music event has had to be cancelled at the venue.

The Silent Disco Dash, with Radio 1's Greg James as DJ, was also cancelled due to low ticket sales. It would have been in aid of the breast cancer charity, CoppaFeel!
