Danny MacAskill's Drop and Roll Tour comes to Ramsgate on the late May bank holiday weekend 2017

Some jaw-dropping cycle stunts come to Ramsgate this Bank Holiday Monday.

The Drop and Roll Tour, headed by Danny MacAskill, will be the centrepiece of a free family event on Monday, May 29 at Government Acre.

Launched in 2014, Drop And Roll was launched by Danny, who is from the Isle of Skye, when he teamed up with top street trial riders and friends, Duncan Shaw, Alastair Clarkson and Fabio Wibmer from Austria.

The team now take their skills around the world and have a staggering 250m YouTube views. Some 10,000 people are expected to arrive for the Ramsgate event.

Visitors at the Spring Spectacular will see choreographed trials displays, including transitions, jumps and technical trials riding, plus commentary.

There will also be a chance for fans to get autographs and Drop and Roll merchandise from the team at 12.15pm and 2.45pm and Danny will also take part in a question and answer session from 4pm.

Danny said: “Expect lots of hops, gaps, jumps and flips and loads of fun. I try to ride almost every day. Sometimes we ride together as a team and then others I ride solo listening to music through my headphones to help me get creative and learn new things.

“For me it all started after seeing some Trials Riding in Magazines. After I saw this I would modify my old mountain bikes to make them as suitable as possible for trials riding.

“Over the years, I have had a few broken bones. My most common break would have to be my collarbone – I have broken it four times.”

Duncan added: “I have always loved bikes and used to love riding around town with my friends riding down stairs and making sketchy ramps. One day we bumped into some older guys doing a new sport called Trials and I have been hooked ever since.”

The Spring Spectacular, organised by the Defence of the Nation Museum and RM Consultancy, will also feature a “chopperbatics” display with Otto the helicopter, a Spitfire and Hurricane flyover, trade stalls and a Kidz Zone with children’s rides, face painting and fun activities.
