Hever Castle Tulip Festival goes online

There are more than 20,000 tulips in full bloom for Hever Castle's Tulip Festival at the moment.

But as the usual thousands of visitors have had to stay away, managers have put the festival online so that people can see the flowers in all their colourful glory while they are available.

Hever Castle’s head gardener, Neil Miller has also taken time out of his busy gardening schedule to provide a virtual tulip tour of the gardens and some planting advice.

The castle has published a series of videos on social media and on the Hever Castle website, with Neil, including him describing choosing the different tulip varieties in the gardens as “being in a sweet shop with every colour under the sun.”

Scenes show the tulips en masse in the borders along the Pergola Walk; in the Italian Garden and the length of the gardens towards the Loggia and the lake, and also on the north side is the Pompeiian Wall which contains small bays showcasing antiquities in stone and marble surrounded by wonderful displays of tulips and bedding plants.

Neil reveals that tulips are as happy in pots and planters as they are in open spaces and so can be grown by anyone.

The garden team continue to maintain the 125 acres for the online festival so that everyone can stay connected and enjoy the history of the castle and the gardens while the castle near Tonbridge is closed to visitors.
