The Pretenders, Bear’s Den, Midlake and more announced for Black Deer Festival 2023

Black Deer Festival has announced the second wave of artists for this year’s line up, including a headline set from The Pretenders.

The festival, which takes place at Eridge Park in Tunbridge Wells, boasts a bill of blues, country, rock and Americana artists, with names such as Bonnie Raitt and Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats already announced.

This year’s festival takes place from Friday, June 16 to Sunday, June 18. You can book tickets online here.

The Pretenders, fronted by singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde, are best known for singles such as Brass in Pocket, 2000 Miles and I’ll Stand By You.

Since forming in 1978, the band have sold millions of records worldwide and their debut self-titled album is certified Gold in the UK and Platinum in Australia and the US.

Americana band Bear’s Den, folk rock group Midlake, country musician Steve Earle and indie rock band Kurt Vile and the Violators have also been announced.

There will also be performances from Grammy winner Lukas Nelson and his band, Promise of the Real, and Far From Saints, the new band from Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones.

They join the likes of Lucinda Williams, the Teskey Brothers, Allison Russell and Calexico, who have already been confirmed for this year’s festival.

Hailed for its friendly, community-based atmosphere, the festival sees artists play on stages large and small in tents around the historic grounds of Eridge Park, surrounded by fields and woodland, with a larger main stage area providing a more traditional festival set-up.

Last year's line-up saw the main stage headlined by Wilco, Van Morrison, and The Waterboys – although the latter was forced to cut their set short when a thunderstorm hit the park.

The festival also offers a range of outdoor family activities, live cooking demonstrations and The Roadhouse, which celebrates Americana counter-culture with custom bike builders, vintage vehicles and exclusive merchandise.
