The Snowman, based on Raymond Briggs' book, comes to the Marlowe Theatre in the New Year

A magical adventure set on Christmas Eve is in the county this week.

The acclaimed stage version of Raymond Briggs' classic tale, The Snowman, will playing a five-night run in Canterbury.

Based on the book by Raymond Briggs, and the 1982 film, which featured the song Walking in the Air, sung by Aled Jones, the show comes to the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, in the New Year, after the panto, Dick Whittington.

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre has staged the show for 19 years.

The enchanting show tells the story of a young boy’s adventures when his snowman comes miraculously to life on Christmas Eve.

With colourful characters, including dancing penguins, reindeer, a snow princess, her wicked beau Jack Frost and of course, Father Christmas, The Snowman promises to be a treat for all the family, and an introduction to dance for youngsters.

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre production features music and lyrics by Howard Blake, performed by a live orchestra.

It will be at the Marlowe Theatre to Sunday, January 22.
