Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter, who lives in Whitstable, tells of “fireworks hell”

Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter has described her “firework hell” after her dog was left petrified following noisy displays.

The outspoken broadcaster, who has a home in Whitstable, took to social media to vent her anger after her border terrier was left shaking and vomiting last night.

The TV personality says she had hoped there may have been fewer fireworks in the wet weather, and because so many people got dogs during Covid.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, she wrote: “Firework hell!

“November 4 and raining but still the morons are setting them off.

“Badger the border terrier has been sick twice and is still shaking, I stupidly hoped that because so many people got dogs during Covid we might have less FIREWORKS. How dumb was that dream!”

It is not clear if the 76-year-old was at her home in Whitstable when she published the post, but many agreed with her and shared their own experiences of how their pets had been affected.

“My poor little Hope hid in a bag. She was so unsettled. Awful things! I wish they didn’t exist,” Debbie Wood wrote alongside a picture of her cat.

Julia Stavordale added: “The other issue Janet is it isn’t just for one day!! Lasts for several days. Fireworks should only be sold to organised display groups, not to individuals! Poor Badger, I hope is ok now.”

A user called Sheena said: “My little dog was panting so hard and shaking I thought she would have a heart attack.

“Unfortunately, now there will be occasional fireworks until the new year. Ban them or sell silent ones. I cannot bear to see my little lady so petrified.”
