Whitstable: St Alphege warns parents about sickness outbreak

Parents of children at a Whitstable primary school have been warned about an outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea.

They have been advised that children should not return to St Alphege Infant School in Oxford Street within 48 hours of their last symptoms.

The first case at the school was spotted on Monday and staff have sent text messages to parents with advice from health experts.

Interim executive head teacher Rob Garratt explained the outbreak is not confined to the school.

He said: “We are following standard procedure and advising that children suffering with the illness follow the NHS guidelines.

“To make sure we can stop any outbreak at the school we have advised parents and carers that children should not return without being clear of their symptoms for 48 hours.

“I think other schools are having to send this advice as well and there is something going around in the community at the moment.”
