Whitstable: Pet snakes rescued from house fire in Borstal Hill

Three pet snakes have been rescued from a house fire in Whitstable.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at a two-storey detached house in Borstal Hill just before 10am this morning.

They also rescued a dog and cat from the fire which was believed to have started in a bedside lamp.

The fire crew were forced to wear breathing apparatus and used a hose reel to put out the blaze.

The snakes were rescued from their enclosure on the upstairs landing, and the cat and dog from the ground-floor lounge.

Crews left the scene just before 11.30am.
