A town centre traveller camp has been cleared two days after it popped up.

Nine motorhomes set up camp on Wednesday at Elwick Road in Ashford, next to the £75 million Elwick Place leisure complex.

Four bailiffs could be seen stationed at the site entrance this morning as Ashford Borough Council confirmed its aim to clear the impromptu encampment today.

The clearance took place within the last hour, with rubbish bags and litter left strewn over the now-empty lot.

Site managers have now chained the entrance gate.

The Elwick Road travellers have moved on, with seagulls enjoying the remaining rubbish

Last month, more than 10 caravans pitched up on the Waterbrook Park industrial estate in Sevington - just hours after being moved from The Ridge playing field in Kennington.
