These dramatic shots show the power of yesterday's high winds.

A yellow weather warning for wind was in place for the whole county yesterday from 4am to 6pm.

It was predicted there would be delays on roads and railways across Kent, and also for ferries from Dover.

As forecast, ferries in and out of the port had to be suspended as high winds battered the coast.

Winds in the channel hit up to 60 knots at times.

These photos, caught by KentOnline reader Gary Ford on the seafront in Dover, show the height that waves reached.

The treacherous conditions also saw the fireworks display at nearby Lydden Hill Race Circuit cancelled.

The weather today has been considerably calmer and most displays are taking place as planned.

It has been mainly dry with patchy fog today.

Any showers will die away this evening with some clear spells leading to the odd patch of mist and fog forming. By midnight a band of rain is set to move in from the west, turning persistent and heavy at times by dawn. The minimum temperature will be 6 °C.
