A secondary school has confirmed pupils are learning remotely due to "some positive cases" of Covid-19.

It is not known how many people at Astor College in Dover have contracted the virus or how many have been required to isolate.

Although the understanding is it is at least two members of Year 7, potentially affecting the whole year group.

Head teacher Lee Kane said: "I can confirm that we have indeed had some positive cases and that we contacted the relevant authorities once we became aware for advice and guidance.

"Pupils off school due to the positive cases will now follow our remote learning procedure which was established during lockdown."

Mr Kane has not provided further details such as the dates in which the cases became known or whether these are the school's first confirmed cases.

Astor College caters for around 800 pupils and is part of the Dover Federation for the Arts.

In neighbouring Deal , both Goodwin Academy and Warden House Primary School have reported their first cases of coronavirus.
